Visit Confolens, Poitou-Charentes
Confolens is in the Charente department of Poitou-Charentes, 40 kilometres north-east of La Rochefoucauld
Confolens is a very attractive town on the Vienne river, at its confluence with the Goire River, surrounded by rolling pastoral countryside.
The main 'highlight' of the town is the 'Old Bridge, a 13th century granite bridge (although significantly modified and repaired in the 18th century. Apart from the bridge itself, this is perhaps the best place for views of the old town. Take a look also at the Fontaine de la Fontorse, an ancient spring at the end of the bridge.
Various other notable sites include the old donjon, the town gate, and the town hall, but it is the old town itself, centred around the Rue du Soleil, which will keep your attention. Beautiful 15th and 16th century colombage houses line the streets up the hill, with as highlight the house of the Duc of Eperon - with some lovely sculptures to see.
Guided tours of the town are organised by the tourist office.
In the second week of August each year the town hosts the International Folklore Festival
9-15 August Festival
